Everything You Need to Know About Microblading Training

Becoming a successful microblading artist takes patience, skill, and an ample amount of practice. While proper training and determination may speed up the learning process, the art of microblading is a time-consuming craft.

Once you’re qualified though, the rewards can be substantial. The average cost of a microblading procedure at Eye Design, for example, is approximately $600-800 – that’s around $8,000 per week, based on a 10-client week.

If you’re interested in taking a microblading course, there’s a few things you should know before you sign up.

What is microblading?

Let’s start with the basics. Microblading is a unique form of tattooing. Unlike “normal” tattooing, however, microblading is done with a manual handheld tool. Microblade strokes lightly score the epidermis whereas machine tattoos penetrate the dermis.

What’s the difference between microblading and microshading?

Microblading leaves tiny, natural-looking hair-strokes that are applied manually with a microblading pen. Microshading (also known as the shadow effect), however, leaves clients with tiny, pin-point dots instead of individual hair-strokes. This effect gives clients a fuller look.

Side note – each company has their own name for techniques. Make sure to speak with your brow artist to make sure you’re getting the technique you want!

What is the healing process like?

Newly micro-bladed brows (or newly micro-shaded/powder brows) can take anywhere from three to four weeks to heal. Immediately following the procedure, the pigment should look sharp and dark. This color will gradually fade as time passes. Once the healing process begins, the client’s skin will appear flaky or dry – this is normal.

During the first five to seven days, the client’s eyebrows will be at their lightest because the color is being absorbed into the deeper layers of skin. Within 25 to 30 days, your brows should become the perfect shade. This timeframe varies from client to client, as we all heal at different rates.

How long does it last?

Depending on your skin type, microblading results can last anywhere between one to three years. Eye Design recommends coming in for a one-year touch-up to keep the color fresh and beautiful.

What should you look for in a trainer?

The studio you choose to train at should provide you with ongoing support. Be wary of microblading training seminars that do not offer after-course support. At Eye Design, we offer continuous support for all of our our microblading course’s students.
